Subaru Impreza Turbo Limited Edition 1994-2001
The conventional styling fails to disguise the rally breeding of these cars. High demand and short supply have ensured that prices remain high. Launched with 4- and 5-door versions in March 1994 they had a flat-four engine, five-speed transmission and four-wheel drive with rear and centre viscous differentials. Prodrive built a Series McRae special edition in June 1995 which had a sunroof and low-profile tyres. It was given a facelift in October 1996 and adjustments made to interior and trim in 1997 and 1998. 1998 also saw the engine uprated to 219bhp. Most of the cars sold in the UK were limited editions supplemented by grey imports of homologation specials. The 1000 units of the P1 sold quickly. In 2001 a new WRX was announced with new styling.
